A Taste of the ATL

There are many well-known spots in Atlanta to visit that are on the radar of many tourists such as the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, and the World of Coca-Cola. While those are all great places to visit, in this post, we’ll focus on a few places that may not come up in the average google search. And food. I’m apparently hungry every time we go to Atlanta, so this post really highlights some yummy Atlanta eateries.

Things to do/Go-To Spots

Ponce City Market

Definitely one of my favorite spots in Atlanta, Ponce City Market has it all- food, shopping, and more. Plus, you can even go to the roof (for a fee) to see rooftop views of Atlanta, grab a bite to eat or a drink, and play a round of mini golf. Ponce City Market is also connected to The BeltLine, making it easy access to more activities as well.

The BeltLine

Another favorite of mine, The BeltLine, which is a former railway corridor, is a great way to spend a day. I highly recommend renting a Bird scooter (please follow the rules with these people and be respectful and put them back where they belong), or a bike and riding along it and checking out some of the ‘graffiti-style’ artwork. There are also lots of restaurants along The BeltLine, so you certainly won’t find yourself without options if you get hungry.

Piedmont Park

A fun way to spend a sunny day, Piedmont Park is in the heart of Atlanta. You could pack a picnic or enjoy some of the concessions they offer (check out their website: piedmontpark.org to see current offerings for each day) and spend the entire afternoon at this park. They have walking trails, dog parks, children’s playgrounds, and plenty of greenspace. Piedmont also offers many other activities such as a Saturday market for most of the year, swimming and fitness class (check the website for the schedule and fees for these activities).

Jackson Street Bridge

Probably the best view of Atlanta and a spot you must visit at least once. Use Google maps to locate this bridge that was featured in ‘The Walking Dead’. Make sure avoid rush hour traffic when you visit.

Check out an Atlanta Braves Game

Okay, so this one is not exactly on the road less taken, but if you are a baseball fan, check out the Braves on their home turf. A day (or night which is even better in the steamy summer months in the South) at the ballpark is always a hit. The Braves play at SunTrust Park. The park has several great eateries and bars and often has other activities prior to, or after the games, such as concerts and fireworks. There is a great play area for kids making this an activity the entire family will enjoy.

Where to Eat

There are thousands of places to eat in ATL, and by no means have I been to even close to half of them, but I’m going to share with you a few great spots to eat when you’re in town.

Best for Brunch

West Egg Café

Located in the adorable Westside Provisions, West Egg Café is definitely one of the best brunch spots in Atlanta. Also, I highly recommend the banana bread French toast- SO good. (Bonus: they offer free parking!).

Café Intermezzo

With a European vibe, Café Intermezzo is a great place for brunch, or honestly, any other meal. There are a few locations in Atlanta and in the surrounding area, so you have your pick on which one is closest to you. Their crepes are delicious, and they have a wide selection of coffee beverages.

Hampton and Hudson

It’s located in Inman Park and has a cool vibe to it. Although I have never eaten there for lunch or dinner, I’ve heard it’s good for those as well.

Lunch/Dinner Spots

H&F Burger

IMG_0782.jpg

By far the best burger place I’ve ever been to, H&F Burger is one of my go to spots. It’s located at Ponce City Market, so even if you have someone else in your party who doesn’t want burgers, there are plenty of other options there.

Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall

Located along The BeltLine, Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall has the cutest vibe, especially if you sit outside. Although their menu is somewhat small, it is still really good, and they have a large drink selection with outdoor and indoor bar areas.

Antico Pizza

With two locations, you’re definitely going to want to check out Antico Pizza. It’s hands down the best pizza in ATL.

Krog Street Market

A go to place if you’re with a group; Krog Street Market has something everyone will like. It’s basically a mess hall, similar to Ponce City Market but mainly just food, where everyone can order something different.

Coffee and Desserts

Read Shop

Located in North Atlanta, Read Shop is a hidden gem. They have the cutest atmosphere with books surrounding the entire place, and delicious lattes.

My Fair Sweets

By far THE best, most extravagant milkshakes you’ll ever see (maybe with the exception of Black Tap), My Fair Sweets is a must for everyone. Although the milkshakes are pretty pricey, they are definitely worth it and perfect for sharing.

Sessions Stand

Even though it’s located in Marietta, Sessions Stand is a small, but incredibly cute coffee shop worth the drive.

There are so many other things to do, see, and eat in Atlanta. This is just a sample of what the city has to offer. I’m sure I’ll be writing more posts about the ATL soon!
